Aspens are not often found near the water's edge as cottonwoods generally dominate river beds and lakeshores. However, in the right combination of alpine conditions, aspen trees will approach a lakeshore as in this image. The crystal clear waters of a high mountain lake give way to the brilliant reflection of gold aspens. The early morning sun leaves the nearby mountain in shadows and the contrast adds to this radiant display of autumn in the Rockies. taken 9/08
