Uncompahgre National Forest, Colorado - Edition of 500
Autumn in the southwestern mountains of Colorado is spectacular. The Indian Summer days are filled with warmth and sunshine; the nights cool and crisp. One of nature's most colorful displays is the turning of the aspens in late September. In this image, the amber-colored aspens are backlit by the morning sun. The canyon wall beyond the trees was covered with evergreens (still in the shadows) and provided a nearly black background for the colorful showcase. taken 9/01
