The Cumbres & Toltec scenic railroad chugs its way up and down Cumbres Pass each day during the spring, summer and autumn.  The echo of the whistle in the canyons and valleys adds a bit of nostalgia to the San Juan experience.  The train requires two engines to power up the steep part of the pass as shown in this snowy, autumn picture.  taken 10/97
