Morning Reflection
McNeil River, Alaska - Edition of 95 The salmon runs of coastal Alaska are critical to the diet and health of the brown bear. Bears learn when salmon are running on the different rivers and move around accordingly to maximize their protein intake. Salmon runs aren’t constant and fish move from the ocean into rivers in groups and often time their movements with the tides. As a result, the bears spend a fair amount of time waiting for the fish to run. In this gentle image, a brown bear eyes the rising tide for signs of salmon. taken 6/10
