Orca Waves
Johnstone Strait, British Columbia - Edition of 975 Orcas often travel close to the shoreline as they cruise the waters of Johnstone Strait in search of their next salmon meal. Although they always travel together in their family groups, their speed and patterns can be quite varied. Sometimes, they travel slowly through serene and inspiring waters. On this August morning, I had the privilege of paddling along side this male orca for over an hour. Individual orcas can be recognized by the shape and features of their dorsal fin; the waves along the back of this male make him easy to recognize. taken 8/04
