Salmon Chase
McNeil River, Alaska - Edition of 95 After spending one to four years in the ocean, sockeye salmon return to spawn in the waters where they were born. They frequently rest in deep pools as they move upriver toward the lake where they will spawn. Many brown bears employ the successful fishing strategy of chasing down these salmon as they run the shallow river riffles. This image shows a bear in full pursuit. You can even see the backs of a few sockeyes as they navigate the shallows in search of deeper water. taken 6/10
