Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming - Edition of 500

Bull elk spend incredible amounts of energy during the rut maintaining and protecting their harems.  The activity of the rut often diminishes during mid-day giving the bulls a chance to rest and feed.  This large harem bull utilized the break in the action to get a much needed drink.  The clear blue autumn sky, golden grass, and slowly meandering river created a timeless portrait of autumn in the Rockies.   taken 9/05
