McNeil River, Alaska
Brown bears emerge from their dens in late spring and immediately begin their search for food. Their favorite summer food are salmon and they know the timing and location of various summer runs. In late spring, sedge grass emerges around many of the ocean lagoons along the Alaska Peninsula. Amazingly, this grass is extremely high in protein and is very valuable to the bears as they wait for the salmon to arrive. McNeil River is a true Eden and provides a place where these bears are able to live their lives free from human interference. These bears enjoy a beautiful June evening as they graze beneath the snow covered peaks.
