Katmai National Park, Alaska
As the salmon run winds down in late fall, brown bears often patrol the lakeshore looking for the last few sockeye salmon of the season. Having completed their life cycle by spawning in the same waters where they were born, these fish give back to the land by providing an amazing amount of nutrition to the surrounding animals and plants. Preparing to hibernate, the bears remain vigilant in their search for food. Taking a break in her search, this female sat for moment to search the water for fish and even perhaps enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the surrounding mountains.
