Archival Pigment Prints
The term "pigment print" is used generally for any type of printed image that uses strictly pigments. Pigment printing processes have been utilized since the middle of the 19th century. The image stability of pigment printing is superior to that of any other method of printing, including traditional silver-halide or metal-based.
Pigment prints are unique in that the pigment ink (minuscule colored particles suspended in a neutral carrier liquid) are laid down onto paper by a digital printer. As solid particles, Pigment Inks are inherently inert and quite stable.
A multitude of examples of artists using archival pigment printing can be seen as close as your local museum. The biggest collections are held at the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Pigment Ink prints exceed traditional color photographs when it comes to archival permanence.
We offer two different pigment printing options; PFR or Canvas.
PFR Pigment Prints
Our paper is a smooth, 100% cotton fine art paper that combines the latest advances in printing technology with the traditional feel of darkroom prints.
This amazing medium is manufactured in France by the world’s leading fine art paper mills. These same mills produced papers for some of the finest artists in history including Chagal and Picasso.
The paper is a combination of platinum/palladium darkroom base papers with the latest microporous coatings. Regarded as one of the finest digital printing media available, the results are simply beautiful. Bright colors, rich details, subtle tones and true blacks make images to come to life.
We apply a varnish to the images for protection. The combination of the paper, pigment inks and UV inhibitors in the coating result in images that will remain colorfast and beautiful for over 100 years.
Finally, the image is mounted on aluminum to ensure the smoothest possible finish for a stunning visual display.
Canvas Pigment Prints
The canvas print has the feel of traditional art. The subtle texture of the canvas can bring images to life and add a three-dimensional feel. This is especially true for aspen trees and animal images with rich details and textures. Canvas prints have a softer almost 'painterly' feel compared to fine art paper.
Made from 100% cotton, the canvas also combines the traditions of artistic canvas with the latest printing technologies. The result is a brilliant image with people often asking ‘is that a photograph or a painting’?
We mount the canvas to an acid-free rigid substrate to eliminate concerns of stretching or cracking over time. The result is an archival and brilliant presentation.
Care of Pigment Prints
Pigment Prints on Canvas and PFR can be easily cleaned by gently wiping them with a soft cloth.
Limited Edition Images
All of Tony’s images are of a limited number. The edition size refers to the total number of images that will be printed (includes all sizes and mediums). Once the edition is sold out, the image will never again be printed or offered as another type of commercially available media. We don't print Artist Proofs or any other extra-image gimmicks designed to increase the size of the original edition.
The price of the image does increase after the edition becomes 50% sold out and increases further as the edition approaches being sold out.
