Four brown bear cubs are a rarity in the natural world. Even more rare is four cubs surviving their entire first summer together and preparing to hibernate for winter. This is a testament to the intelligence, dominance and compassion of their mother. The availability of a rich food source during the summer is an obvious requirement to feed so many mouths. In this image, their mom is fishing for salmon in the nearby river. The cubs group together to watch her every move as they anticipate her returning with yet another meal to nourish them.
