Thomson's gazelles (nicknamed Tommies), numbering around 165,000 in the Serengeti ecosystem, make the annual migration alongside zebras and wildebeests as they search for nutrient-rich grasslands. The soils of the Southern Serengeti produce the most nutritious grasses, and the migrating animals will remain in this area as long as the grass is green. The spring rainy season brings an incredible amount of life to the plains.  Temporary wetlands form, attracting all manner of animals. In this image, a gazelle was feeding in the shallow water before bounding off with remarkable speed and agility to rejoin her herd.
