Yellowstone National Park

The return of the gray wolf to Yellowstone has been filled with many emotions for many different people. This highly intelligent and social apex predator completes the ecosystem and is necessary for the full health of the surrounding environment. Since the return of the wolf, aspen trees are returning to Yellowstone along with willows, the resulting beaver ponds, and an overall balanced ecosystem. This famous wolf (one of only three white wolves in Yellowstone) led the Canyon Pack as the alpha female for many years. In this picture she is eleven years old which is remarkable for a wolf. Her life is a tribute to the ability of mankind to allow nature to exist as it has for millions of years.
