Sunset Over the San Juans

Uncompahgre National Forest, Colorado

We are all familiar with the majestic beauty of the Colorado Rockies. Rich conifer forests, mountain meadows, endless groves of quaking aspen trees, and the towering peaks create landscapes that bring us inspiration and rest. I find amazing sunsets to be a rarity in Colorado, but when they happen their beauty is breathtaking. I was patiently waiting for twilight hoping to capture pictures of the milky way soaring over this scene, but it looked like the cloud cover would block the stars. However, as the sun set below the horizon, the clouds began to glow and a gentle light spread across the landscape creating a magical moment in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.
