Wapati Legacy

For several years, the Wapati pack ruled Yellowstone with more than 20 members, making it one of the largest packs ever recorded. During one incredible encounter, curiosity got the better of a younger wolf, who cautiously approached to investigate this wildlife photographer. He came within about 50 feet at which point this image was captured. Only about 5-10% of wolves are solid blacks which creates a beautiful contrast against the wintry snow.
